7 years have gone by since I first started this journey as a lifestyle blogger – what a trip it’s been! I’ve gone from sharing mostly think pieces to sharing my wins, my regrets, my career moves, my travels, cooking recipes and a lot more in between. As is the anniversary tradition round here, we’ll do a mini memory lane trip. Ladies and gentlemen, shall we?
Back to where it all began! My very first blogpost was on September 4th, 2014 after I experienced what was then my worst case of betrayal (yes worse has happened since then unfortunately, but that’s life). But that betrayal gave me this so I can now actually say thank you, Ayo Sanya, for what you did all those years ago, as well as for the second betrayal that led to the mass exodus of medical students from our class the following year; it all worked out for our good in the end.
One of my read posts in this era was when I shared that I was leaving my first Nigerian university . It was a very emotional period, one that I hope no one ever experiences, but I love that with the benefit of hindsight, I can happily say that it all worked for my good. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I didn’t make that decision in 2015 and that’s on period.
Sparsely, I share about my experiences with men haha, I’m not a fan of sharing my private life but I sometimes I share the lessons gained like when I wrote about how a man tried to make me feel indebted for a favor I didn’t ask for, or walking away from a bad relationship.
Another highly read post was when I wrote about Being a Deeper life girl in the 21st century – in fact, just last year someone still lifted my photos from this 5 year old post for an article lol.
A couple travel posts:
New York City for the United Nations Youth Assembly
Till today – my “3 steps to getting a Nigerian accent” post is read from all over the world 😂
After I worked at the World Health Assembly, a lot of people asked me how I got to that position as a Nigerian medical student – so I wrote about it, I think the advice here is still relevant, so please have a look!
I wrote quite a few articles during my housemanship year because I went THROUGH IT! Flooding in the consultation room was a sad but well read piece of mine as well as when I was sexually harassed. Let’s just say I frequently thank God that phase is over. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom – they don’t call me Minister of Enjoyment for nothing! I had lots of fun in my off time and I made a blogpost of moved back to London, I received a lot of online love for which I’m so grateful for. Next thing you know, lockdown happened and scattered my life plans. I took to cooking as a release; because I can determine the outcome so it gave me a semblance of control. I made lots of tiktoks of my various recipes, like when I made banging Jollof rice so I shared the recipe on here as well – please recreate it and enjoy your life my people haha.
I could go on and on lol. I thank you all, my lovely readers, for indulging me with your time and for your comments and shares! They make the value of this website greater and it’s positively impacted my life in more ways than I’d ever have imagined.
Thank you!
Till next time,
Dr. ETP xo
