As I said, in the previous post – all work and no play isn’t my style so I made sure I had fun on Sunday 21st January – my birthday!
The day started with prayers to thank God for the awesome experience I was having them I headed down for breakfast with my Team, before heading out to the UNECA for day two of the GIMAC Summit.

Couple hours later my beautiful friend Heaven, the President of the Ethiopia Medical Student’s Association and Yohanne, the General Secretary dame to pick my friend Orejesu Ajayi and I up to take us on a tour of the capital!

The first stop was at Blackline University, which is Heaven’s University and also the base for the Ethiopia Medical Students Association Headquarters, she took us on a tour around the hospital/university grounds and introduced us to her friends – it was so beautiful, just look at that library!

Next we headed out to this breathtaking monument which was called the Tiglarchin (Amharic for “Our Struggle”) and was built as a memorial to Ethiopian and Cuban soldiers involved in the Ogaden War against Somalia, the Cubans came to help them win the war and so this monument is in their honor; talk about international relations!

Next we headed towards a region called Piazza which is known for cheap souvenirs (the souvenir shop around my hotel was super expensive in comparison, thankfully I had Heaven and Ismail to bargain in the local language haha).

It was a beautiful though short tour as we had to get back to the conference as Orejesu’s speech was that day, but I loved every moment of it!
