A number of Presidential aspirants have been declaring their interests in taking up the role of Nigeria’s Number One Citizen of late, and people have responded in different ways, but something that struck me is that there is this really negative consensus overshadowing it all.
A lot of young people say they’re tired of President Buhari, say Atiku is too old, Ngozi Iweala is a woman (rolls eyes at this complaint), Fela Durotoye should run for House of Representatives first, and my personal most ridiculous, I can’t wait on the queue to get my PVC.
Fellow young people, we can rant and display angst on social media all we want, but the real ability to make a difference lies in our Personal Voter’s Card (PVC). What’s the point in going on and on about how things aren’t working but then you don’t take the little step you can to make things better, even if just on a seemingly miniature scale? I’ve never been able to vote in a Nigerian election before but I have been a very informed voter whilst growing up in the U.K. and I intend to partake this time around. Don’t sit around hoping for things to change when you hold the remote right in your hands but have refused to use it. 2019 is for us – vote wisely..
Till next time,
ETP xo
