STANDING TOGETHER CONTINUES:
Sixthly, unity within the home is special. The anointing oil to which it is likened is that which separated Aaron from others for his special services unto God. So the Psalmist implied that unity is so special that the only thing it can be likened to is the ointment that was used to set Aaron apart for special services.
Again, he said that unity is flowing. This implies that once it is set in motion it will never stop. This type of unity and love starts from the wedding day and it goes on till death shall separate the partners. The longer you are in marriage, the sweeter it is. It becomes richer, better, Holier as the days go by. If you have missed this type of unity in your marriage you have to find it as quickly as possible.
“As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion…”(Verse 3). Here, the Psalmist tells us that another attribute of unity is that it is descending. This gives the impression that unity goes from the top to the bottom, from the strong to the weak, from the highest to the lowest.
The strongest member of the family is the husband. What this implies therefore is that, descending, unity flows from the husband to the wife, and from the wife to the children, even to the least person in that family.
When dew falls upon plants it refreshes them. It supplies them with water in some measure. This reveals yet another attribute of unity. It is refreshing. In its course, it comes upon the members of the family and refreshes them. It relaxes the tension of life which they face outside. It contributes to their physical, emotional, Spiritual, social, and intellectual growth.
To cap it all, the second part of verse 3 read, ..”for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.” This is the last attribute of unity as revealed in the psalm. It is a blessing from God. Unity attracts God’s blessings wherever it is found.
Unity has such a force that among whichever set of people it dwells, such cannot be separated either by sword, famine, misunderstanding, offence or whatever. The United Husband and wife never have time to think of Separation or divorce because nothing ever prompts such an action. Instead, they just stay together, live together, love together, play and pray together. No wonder the Psalmist exclaims, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
Go through that Psalm again and then picture your marriage if you are married. If you are not married I want you to develop a mental picture of the kind of marriage you want to have. Create a picture of living together with a man or a woman in such unity and harmony. It will be Heaven on earth 🌍 for you.
You must have observed that the Palmist alerts you to look up and see an uncommon sight. If you are looking for something that will give you enjoyment and pleasure. Something that will leave you with pleasant and unforgettable memories, cast your eye on the good in dwelling together in unity.
