Welcome to the latest feature on my site! From time to time I’ll be interviewing personalities from all walks of life, and to kickstart this page I scored a celebrity interview with Dtunes, who is the CEO of Difference Entertainment as well as the super-talented producer behind Iyanya’s hits Kukere and Flavour as well as Sean Tizzle’s Sho Lee!
Hey DTunes! Thank you for having me today.
Thanks Liz… thanks for having me.
Your fans want to know – what’s your real name?
Adesanya Doyinsola joshua, thats my real name. I’m from a family of four, with 2 pastors and I’m the music rebel as you can see lolzz
What made you pick “Dtunes”?
It came off DBLOCK my rapper name from back in the days when i used to rap…from my real name Doyinsola.. The tunes came from a friend of mine always saying my beats had so many sounds in it – so its just a collage of different episodes I’ve been through in my life..
Your company has made such a success out of Sean Tizzle and he has come a long way from his sensational hit “Sho Lee”, what would you say was the reason behind the success?
First reason has to be GOD… it was my first time as a young CEO…so many people I had consulted had predicted failure, but against all the odds, my incredible team and I pulled off one of the biggest heists, if not the biggest, on the Nigerian music scene.. we came from peddling Sean Tizzle’s music from the back of a Peugoet 206 to where we are today..
…God, grace, hard work and not making excuses has been our success formula..
2013 was a brilliant boost for you, how did you feel after you received your award at the Headies?
2013 was just the beginning. It was a year of crowning efforts from work I had done previously and present to that time. I won so many awards..so many that I can’t even remember some… but in the end 2013 showed that any and every dream is valid.. I had come from selling beats on iCloud and Myspace, to peddling beats on Facebook, to making beat CDs for major Nigerian artistes to listen to my sound, to risking it all with Iyanya and creating many monster hits and proving people wrong time and time again – to breaking off to become a CEO of a successful entertainment company.
I think it’s time we clear the elephant in the room – in your words, how would you describe how you and I met?
Lollzz we met I think in 2013, you guys were having a school show and you were the organiser and there was a lot going shady behind the organisation of the event, then you called and we all found a way to fix the whole situation and we had a blast – it was a successful show, a very successful event…that formed a lot of alliances and relationships…yours and mine; I would say is a special one..
What do you feel about the music industry and maintaining relationships of any form in the music industry?
It’s hard because I have a lot on my plate, trying to grow a company in our country Nigeria, which has its own unique advantages and disadvantages.. in all it’s been a fulfilling experience..and I count it all bliss..unfortunately my relationships have had to suffer for my ambition, be it family or otherwise.. that, I’m still working on.
Whilst we are lolling around the subject – are you in a romantic relationship?
Yes I am.
Ouch – Sorry ladies! So, what do you look for in a partner?
Loyalty, manners, she has to be hardworking obviously and has got to bring something to the table.. basically a lady of substance – not just looks.
Alright onto relatively safer grounds, the latest hit fresh out of the Difference Studio is “My Way” by yourself and two of your latest signings BadBoyAce and D.O – what was it like stepping into the booth as compared to being behind the screen?
That was just a freestyle.. one of many other songs coming out soon from Difference Entertainment…we are about good music and supporting the youth as regards to talent development…its a personal goal of mine not only to be a blessed person but to be a blessing to as many other people as I can.
Lastly, what can we expect from Difference Ent in the near future?
We just launched our film company Difference Pictures which does a lot ranging from TV Commercials, to movies and music videos and the likes; then there’s the opening of our vast company coming out next year…it’s more than a movement… it’s young people doing ground breaking stuff… I just turned 25 a couple days ago and I’m already plotting how to make this a billion dollar company.. thankfully we are way past millions of Naira and all.
Thank you once again for your time, it was great to have you here at elizabethtpeters.com
