Hey lovelies!
On Wednesday the 13th of March, I was invited to Unilag FM to speak on sexual and reproductive health and it was such an honor! The Programme is called Science World and was hosted by the eloquent Toyin Zuleha, who was a pleasure to speak to – which was so vital for me as it was my first time on a radio show, so having someone make me feel totally at ease was certainly a plus. Major thanks to Joshua Adeyemi who was persistent in ensuring I came for the show haha, and to my other friends at the station – Adeniran, Mrs Beatrice and Bakare – thank you for treating me so beautifully, I felt super welcome 🙂
I spoke about the importance of sexual health and gave a few anecdotes, but so we’re all on the same page: Sexual health is a state of physical, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. (WHO)
This easily links into reproductive health, which focuses on all things to do with reproduction – birth control, maternal and newborn health, and it’s such an essential area in public health as it affects every single person – we’re all a product of successful conceptions, pregnancies and hopefully safe deliveries – that should be the norm for everyone, but presently that isn’t the case. So many women are uninformed or ill-informed concerning their reproductive health, which impedes in their health outcomes.
I can talk for ages on this topic lol, but I’ll just wrap it up here – looking forward to more radio show invitations!
Till next time,
Dr. ETP xo
