Hey hey people! So as you may have guessed, I’ve been in Abeokuta for a little while and I had to take full advantage of my first time in the city by getting the tourist experience! You should have read my Olumo Rock Experience, now let me tell you all about the OOPL.
First of all, why does former President Obasanjo have a Library, you may be wondering? Well I would have been wondering myself if I hadn’t been watching Scandal and in the last couple episodes the immediate past president (Fitz) has just started planning his Presidential Library; it’s basically meant to be a memorial of the former president, artifacts from his life before and during his presidency – it’s a chance to more or less immortalize the president, and also give the public a feel of the person behind the office – as well as inspire them, which OOPL most certainly did for me.
Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library is the 14th Presidential Library in the world – the other 13 are in The United States of America.
So that’s the background, let’s jump right in shall we?
Upon arrival at OOPL, you’re greeted by beautifully manicured green lawns and masterly crafted architecture; the place is wonderful to behold! There are buggies for transportation around the very large compound, which houses a church, mosque, nursery and primary school, indoor and outdoor sports centre, two large event centers, a resort, an outdoor swimming pool, a basketball court, squash court, various suites, a wildlife park, the main museum and an arrival pavilion.
I genuinely enjoyed myself and felt so inspired, especially when I was at the replica of his office at Aso Rock – President Obasanjo came from such a humble background but it didn’t stop him from aspiring for greatness, the only thing standing between yourself and where you want to be in life – is you – don’t settle for any less than you can achieve!
It’s a great place to visit, if you’re ever in Abeokuta – set a date to stop by! You’ll need at least 3 hours to fully enjoy it : )
Till next time,
ETP xo
