Hey heyyy! Last week I was on leave after three months of toiling in the Pediatrics department and I was so blessed for it to coincide with the AWLO Weekend!
What is AWLO? The African Women in Leadership Organization is a not-for-profit organisation with membership that is open to all women of African Descent. AWLO brings together female executives, professionals and leaders to further advance the leadership status of women in continent of Africa, by creating an empowering platform and harnessing the synergies of alliance.
Part of AWLO’s many schemes, is the Next Generation Female Leaders (NGFL) which I am privileged to be a member of, alongside my darlings Joy & Lisa, who are Medical Students in Babcock University.
So the first event I took part of was the AWLO Awareness walk (15th December) which was partnered with YALI Lagos (Young African Leaders Initiative). We walked from Ikeja City Mall to JJT Park, about 10 minutes in distance and we chanted all the way. AIT Covered the event and the event was aired on Friday 21st, yup your girl was on TV haha.
Next we had the AWLO Strategic Leadership Training on the morning of the dinner and it was a great time spent getting to know fellow NGFL’s as well as learning from the experienced Madam President of AWLO, Dr. Violet Arene, who has many years of training experience from when she worked at NNPC.
Last but not least, we had the AWLO Induction Dinner and Awards Night which was a night of glitz and glamor, that took place in D’Podium Event Centre in Ikeja and was beautifully put together. The event celebrated women of worth from around the world, saw new members of AWLO become inducted and even involved giving cash prizes to my girls Lisa and Joy for their amazing participation in an NGFL activity.
Being a part of AWLO has been of great positive influence on my life and I am grateful to the founder, Dr. Elisha Attai and Madam President for the opportunity; I’m sure 2019 will see more come from this platform through all NGFL members.
