It’s been a year since the massacre that happened across Nigeria by the state against peaceful protesters, with the Lekki Toll Gate being the most widely covered.
Today we remember the lives that were lost in the struggle for a better Nigeria.
Today we went out in a car procession to wave our flags, as a form of memorial for the fallen – and a reminder to the Nigerian government that we will never forget the crimes that were perpetrated by state-backed thugs (including the Nigerian army and police force).
We may not feel like we won because even today some of us were brutalized and arrested for simply being at the tollgate; but in the greater scheme of things we’re rewriting history, our way. We’re documenting our uproar, we’re making our displeasure very clearly known.
And come 2023, we’ll take it to the polls.
So don’t be worn out, it’s a war not a battle, but we shall overcome, one step at a time, TOGETHER.
