Do you remember when the men of the Earth wanted to have sex with angels? (Gen 19:5) The first time I read it, and even now, I still feel somewhat scared for those men, like how can they want to desecrate holy beings? Were they not scared? I imagine the angels, big and all in white. The angels had the power to destroy or to save them. To disrespect them like that! I couldn’t even imagine it!
What if you enter your church building one Sunday morning and what you see is people having sex everywhere? All that nudity and action right in the presence of God, in his holy place even! You’d think that’s sin and defiling the house of God.
Then when everyone was done, they’d clean up real good and start to worship, lifting hands and raising voices to God. How will you react? You’d probably never go there to worship again because there is no way that could have been right. You’d look for another church.
We’ve been told that the church is a holy place, some of our parents still believe you’re to tie your scarves and not wear trousers when you enter the ‘building’ called the church. Some believe we can drink and smoke, fornicate and commit adultery outside of the church building, but we bow our heads immediately we walk through that door.
Somewhere in our minds, the presence of God is in that building and not as much outside of it.
May I submit to you that your theology is a little messed up and not updated?
Stop living in the old testament. The very presence of God, that big God, the one who created the angels and buildings we think are holy, the one who resided in the holy temple where David and even Jesus and his parents went to offer routine sacrifices, stopped abiding in the temple the second Jesus uttered the words ‘It is finished’. His plan was perfected. He found a new home.
You.
He decided to dwell fully and completely within every man who would come to accept him. All of that holiness and glory of God that is ascribed to being in the ‘church building’ is in you. You are now the church. You are the reality of the new testament. When you wake up, you are the church, when you go to work, you are the church, when you go to the bar on Friday night, you are the church, when you have sex every other day, you are the church.
That imagery of defiling the church building you had earlier becomes real and played out everytime you have sex outside of its intended confines of marriage to your one partner. You do it in the church, the place where God resides. Your body is literally the temple of God.
You tell the Holy Spirit, “err can you excuse me for a little while, there’s this really hot babe or guy I need to be with right now, come back when we’re done” and He’s left to hurt and hurt. You cheat on him and invite Him in at your own time saying after all He’ll forgive me. Yes, He loves that way, He will come back when you ask Him to but would you take it?
How would you feel? A lot of human relationships have ended because “they cheated on me” but somehow you think it’s okay to do it to the Holy Spirit. And he always comes back everytime you ask him to. Please show me a better definition of love.
You’ll say He’s gullible but He’ll tell you “I’m not being slow, but I’m being patient with you” [God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the end because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change. [2 Peter 3:8–9 MSG]
And until you get this revelation, until it becomes a conviction, you cannot live it out. I do not say these things to judge, I am not in the least position to do so, not even worthy to. I say it because I now have that conviction of the truth sitting within me. He will break off habits and patterns that do not resemble His nature, after all, to be Christian is to be like Christ. Only ask Him to. I pray the truth sets you free as you aim to please the maker of all truth. Shalom.
