Hey darlings!
Today I officially changed my social media names along with a couple of my documents to reflect my husband’s surname. We’ve been married for almost 2 years so I’ve had quite some time to come to this decision and I’m very glad about it! Samuel feels it’s unnecessary and has been saying I didn’t need to but quite frankly it’s my decision and I made up my mind to do it haha.
I apparently caused a bit of a ruckus on X today when I giddily announced my decision to take my husband’s surname – who would’ve thought this is now a subject of contention? All I’ll say on that front is that I’m grateful for feminism providing me with the ability to CHOOSE this decision at my own time and in my own terms.
I enjoyed being Dr Peters a lot! It made up my brand (working on a website refresh to go with the change, y’all will see what my designer and I come up with soon, I’m excited!) and I am proud of all that I achieved whilst that was my name – it’s still me and those are still my achievements! I’m not a different person nor am I someone’s property – I’m still Elizabeth, still your blogger friend on this corner of the internet, still that doctor that avoids doctoring haha.
I want my family to have a uniform surname and I love my husband dearly – these are my reasons for this change and it’s what’s seeing me through the bits of stress I’m experiencing with some of the processes (my passports), thankfully my bills, workplace, license were all very easy and quick to effect the change.
In all, I think everyone should respect other people’s personal decisions especially when it’s not harming anyone else. There are many more issues to expend your energy upon if you must be pressed about something dears – how about you choose joy?
Till next time,
Dr Elizabeth T ‘Kandi ❤️
(Dr ETK for short :D)
