Hey loves!
Moving outside London has its perks – more value for money in real estate, lower cost of living, slower pace of life and lots of free parking. But of course, the downside is being away from family and friends who I care about – so attending events is no longer an off the whim thing, now there’s a whole process, especially with a 9 month old who is moving away from milk to real food in tow.
But it doesn’t change the fact that these are people I care about and want to celebrate with. So the added time to think up a meal plan, time our journey times and actually do the trips – all end up being worth the smiles on our loved ones faces. If everyone gave an excuse, valid or not, and didn’t attend social events as a result of the concomitant effort required to show up at them; we’d be a very isolated and lonely bunch. I have seen first hand how much loneliness can deal with people among my patients and so I take seriously keeping relationships alive and hopefully thriving.
Is it hard some days? Absolutely. As I write this I owe my friend Dayo a call for like 3 weeks and Bolatito about a month now. It’s hard to keep on track of maintaining friendships amidst other seemingly more pressing life responsibilities like finances or stocking the fridge or meal prepping – but it’s still important. It makes life more enjoyable and isn’t that the point of working hard, to be able to enjoy? Why deprive yourself of that joy?
Till next time,
Dr ETK xo
