Hey Lovelies,
My first question is this: does everyone have a past? Yes everyone does, except for the obvious children *lol*. Even as a young lady in her twenties, I have my past not to mention our elderly parents, uncles, aunts. Even Jesus had His past because He is now seated at the right Hand of God the Father. I have come to realise that how we handle our past matters a lot in a real sense, and if not handled carefully it will reflect in the present (now).
I have so many memories of my growing up, some of which I wondered why, how, and what led me to doing whatever I did *hahaha*. Though I grew up knowing some of the reasons why I acted in such ways were either because I was naive, desperate, childish, unknowingly, or too stubborn to make corrections. Here are few silly things I did as a child, taking what doesn’t belong to me, lying to protect myself. I made some serious mistakes as an adult which wasn’t something I’m proud of whenever it flashes my mind. All glory to God who did not allow our mistakes/past to consume us. Now that I’m in Christ and I know the truth, how do I deal with some past actions I’m not proud of? See this scripture “don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.”
A short story, one day I sustained an injury. My reaction was to clean up the injured part and apply necessary ointment or first aid. Depending on how severe it is, I’ll go to the nearest hospital so that I can get treatment and heal quickly right? Another option is to refuse to treat the injury or take necessary measures, take it home hoping it will heal up itself, right? The outcome of this action will be slow healing of the injury. In some cases, the injury might expand depending on my immunity or severity of the injury. Another bad outcome will be more pain just because I ignored something I should have taken responsibility for.
This can be applied to our past, quite alright the milk has been spilled. Did someone deeply hurt you in your past? Just think of the worst evil incident that happened in the past, it comes like flashes in your memory. You don’t have to keep dwelling on the matters you can’t change all by yourself. The Bible says “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin”. It simply means you must invite the One whose Strength surpasses our weakness, pains or hurt. It’s okay to cry to express your pain/feelings to God, it’s okay to be all by yourself. At the same time quickly snap back to your feet. Please pick out important lessons, forgive whoever reminds you of your bad past or was involved. Above all pray! Pray! Gradually you will notice your emotional healing is here.
The peak of it is that you dwell daily on God’s Word. Honestly the Word of God is so soothing, especially this verse of the scriptures “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2cor 5:17). Therefore, start operating in the new reality you’re in. Another anchor scripture “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love”. No one can fully explain the kind of Love and satisfaction God gives His children. Here are some activities you can do to erase your past, serve God in a Bible believing church as a worker, hang out with godly friends, communicate with right minds or people that have walked through the same path or have the knowledge and won’t judge you, do things that will aid speedy healing process (engaging in things you do best), you can keep your distance from people that were involved in your past if need be so that you can heal (for a while not forever) and you’ll notice that your past becomes faint memories.
