Hello hello my lovelies! You know I’ve been hinting at having a lot of good news? Well here’s one installment – I’m starting my Global Master in Public Health at Imperial College London – a global top 10 school for public health!!
Like – Meeeeee???
Backstory: I’ve applied once before and I didn’t get in; they said my application was strong but places are highly competitive, so I was like yeah? You guys will see me next year and have no choice but to select me! I didn’t let that rejection letter put me down one bit, instead, I had a meeting with my mentor and we strategized on what I could do until the next application round that will strengthen mine. Truth is, in life there are always going to be ups and downs, if you know this, you know an up is around the corner whilst you’re down in the dumps, so you can focus on getting there – which is what I do when I face rejection.
Over the year, I was privileged to participate in an international malaria campaign alongside David Beckham, spoke at Concordia, a renowned international conference that has hosted the likes of President Joe Biden, worked at an international NGO and spoke on National television about the global pandemic; so by the time I was reapplying, I was a new person altogether – and of course I was accepted! These opportunities were orchestrated by God to be very honest, I didn’t go searching for them, He just placed my name in the minds of awesome people who gladly recommended me.
Invest in your network my people – it pays, greatly.
And that’s how this journey began! It’s a part-time online masters which I’ll undertake for two years, and I truly am excited about the concept of focusing on public health and specializing that bit more – as it all feeds into my mid-term career plans – I’ll share that as time goes on haha.
