Hello everyone, it another Monday, a special one as ETPblog clocks 2 …yay. I’d like to congratulate Lizzy Peters on the second anniversary of this blog, also to everyone from the tech guy to the feature writers and the readers without whom this will be meaningless, I say congratulations, may it continue to grow bigger as the years go by. Oh and before I forget, I hope it’s not only the readers that get a little something, I’m side-eyeing you o.
Ok guys welcome to For Butterflies, my name is Gloria and I want to thank you guys for your comments last week they were a soothing balm to a re-opened wound, God bless you sweet people. I’ve got exams this week so I will not be able to write on one of those my corny ideas lol, It happens to be a special period on ETP therefore it would be uncouth for me to leave Monday blank and so I decided to write a Gloria’s men appreciation article (me too, I’ve joined Pick Me Twitter lmao).
My colleagues and I were in the clinic the other day and things were a little bit boring so I asked my partner to teach me about football, yes, if I can survive my course for this long then I can learn about football (lol, don’t roll your eyes yet) we started from the basics of course, like what clubs there were, the difference between Champions League and Premier League, other cups like the FA cup which is the only cup Arsenal is good at winning (ouch!), the Europa league etcetera, then we went to the big clubs and small clubs in each country where I finally learnt that Juventus was not German but in fact an Italian club (my friend used to sass me when I asked if it was Italian, he’d say hmmhmm Ghana ni) then we went on to the various positions one could play on the field like the inside forward, centre back, there’s a winger and then there’s a wing back, there are 5 types of midfielders, can you believe that!
You know where he finally lost me? The formation, Beyonce ain’t got nothing on soccer girls, she don’t know what she talkin’ about by tellin’ us to get in formation, them boys done figured it out way before us man. I should have taking my math lessons seriously, who knew there were gazillion ways to arrange 10 people, talk about 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2, 3-4-3 etcetera, and they have different positions on the field, after a point my eyes started rolling into the back of its sockets and I started to mix inside forward with wing back, I told him to stop after he had laughed his ass off. You know what I liked most about that moment, it was that he didn’t dismiss my curiosity, he was very eager to talk to me about something he liked even though it was more of a guy thing, that’s the same way I want to talk about feminism, it’s something I like and want to explain, maybe guys could like it. So the guys get the gold today ladies, thank you for being men that are patient enough to teach us stuff that we’re clueless about and for the boys that are not, here, take your L and be going. We feminists love you guys, that is why we want you to understand what exactly it is about and let go of the various misconceptions that are out there. We want you to understand why we want the opportunity to be just as successful as you are in every field we choose, a little less antagonism and a little more curiosity (just like football and I) would be nice yeah, try to learn more about it, you may find out it favours men just as much as the ladies too.
